Tweed Valley Region

The Tweed Valley, a caldera formed by the collapse and erosion of the “Tweed Volcano”, lies at the heart of the area. Tourism Australia describes the region as Australia’s Green Cauldron.

Beautiful Tumbulgum is surrounded by dramatic mountain ranges with World Heritage rainforests, fields of cane, lush farms and grazing cattle, spectacular uncrowded beaches, history, community and spirituality. It’s no wonder the Tweed Valley attracts a diverse population of artists, professionals and those seeking a relaxed lifestyle, who choose to live and work here.

Gold Coast Beaches

Within 20 minutes of Tumbulgum are the fabulous beaches of the Tweed Coast, Coolangatta International Airport and the business centres of Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads, making Tumbulgum the most conveniently located of the Tweed Shire’s rural villages.

Things to Do in Tumbulgum

Conservation listed Tumbulgum village amenities include a heritage walking trail, a great choice of eateries, Tumbulgum Hall, Tumbulgum Public School, Rangers Sports Club, Post Office, general store, gallery, river cruisers, and picnic areas along the river bank.  Photo opportunities abound.

For those arriving by water, a public wharf is located at the historic Tumbulgum Tavern and a jetty and boat ramp near the Post Office and general store.

Natures Gifts

Within Tumbulgum and North Tumbulgum are environmental treasures:  Stotts Island Nature Reserve, containing a 77 hectare (190 acres)  example of lowland sub-tropical rainforest, Duroby Nature Reserve and Skinners Reserve.  Tumbulgum itself is both an historic and contemporary hidden gem, tucked away off the busy Tweed Valley Way.

Walk in History

TUMBULGUM HERITAGE TRAIL was established in 2013. Permanent signs, depicting life in Tumbulgum’s past, have been installed at 12 sites identified of historical significance. The Trail is a flat walk and takes approx. 40-50 minutes. A map of the Trail is displayed in the window of the Community Hall.
