Official Obama Portraits Drawcard for National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery is the only complete collection of presidential portraits outside the White House.
In February 2018, The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC unveiled its commissioned portraits of former President Barack Obama and Mrs Michelle Obama by artists Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, respectively.
The new portraits have attracted record attendence to the National Gallery. Around 400,000 people have viewed the portraits to date.
Former President and First Lady Portraits
Wiley’s portrait of the 44th president shows Obama leaning forward in a chair surrounded by vibrant green foliage that includes references to Chicago, Hawaii and Kenya.
Sherald’s portrait of Michelle Obama depicts the first lady wearing a ‘Milly’ (Michelle Smith) printed dress before a pale blue background.
